About the American Art Collection Online
and Acknowledgements
In 1991, through the generosity of Henry Luce Foundation, LACMA
published American Art: A Catalogue of the Los Angeles
County Museum of Art Collection by Ilene Susan Fort
and Michael Quick, a definitive catalogue of its American paintings,
sculptures, and watercolors. In 2003, LACMA was able to address the
pressing need to expand this book into a searchable web database
and online presentation, enabling the incorporation of American art
in all media.The
entire contents of the hard-bound catalogue are now fully integrated
into Collections Online with new features, and the collections of
American paintings and sculpture interwoven with American works from
the departments of Costume and Textiles, Decorative Arts, Prints
and Drawings, and Photography, a project made possible by the renewed
generosity of the Luce Foundation.
